This is National School Counselor Week!

National School Counseling Week is February 4th – 8th.  This week is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and highlights the unique contribution of counselors within the US school systems.

School counselors help students learn lessons that will help them succeed in life.  Students are provided with academic, college/career and social/emotional development.  Counselors have a tremendous impact in helping students achieve school success, as well as helping to plan for post-secondary goals or a career.

This is the perfect week to recognize the work of 100,000 school counselors across the nation, that help thousands of K-12 students worldwide.

Please check out this story about RSU #71 art students and their recent showing at the Capitol.  Our own Rose was included in this show!  Congratulations, Rose!

It has come to our attention that some parents are confused about the changes we have made to our Thanksgiving tradition here at Nickerson.  The great news is that our student population has grown and grown and we now have over 100 students!  The bad news is that the cafeteria is not big enough to accommodate that many children and their guests.  The decision to not invite families to join us for Thanksgiving Dinner was not an easy one.  We tried and tried to come up with a compromise.  The best we could find was to invite families to join us for dessert.  Dessert will not be served in the cafeteria for most classes.  We may have the youngest students and their families eat in the cafeteria.  However, the majority of the students will be enjoying dessert in their classrooms.  We know that this is a big disappointment to many and we are sorry about that.  This was not something we wanted to do, but the building and fire codes prevent us from continuing to invite families for dinner.  Please contact the school with any questions or concerns.
