Hi Everyone! My name is Liz Wakem and I am SO thrilled to be working with the staffs at East and Nickerson! I know we are going to have an amazing year filled with learning, and growing by setting clear expectations, fostering good work habits, and positive behavior. WE GOT THIS!

So a little about me and my educational background…

I am a native of Belfast and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else other than right here in midcoast Maine. I started my educational career as a teacher 18 years ago and was in RSU 3 for 11 years teaching grades 1-5 and I was also a district Literacy Coach. The opportunity came to be where I was honored to be the 3rd-grade teacher at Drinkwater School in Northport for one year, just before RSU 71 came to be. Knowing that my heart was in the Belfast area, I transferred to Troy Howard Middle School as a district Technology Integrator. I embraced that job for 2 ½ years and went to work for the Maine Department of Education as a Literacy Coach as part of a pilot program called MoMEntum. In 2018 I returned to my role as a Technology Integrator in RSU 71.

My personal life…

I have a wonderful husband Andy, and my daughter Morgan is pretty great too! She attends college in Connecticut and is on her college swim team. GO OWLS! I also have two amazing puppies named Ruby and Peri.
